The Arc of McLennan County Opportunity Center

What is The Opportunity Center at the Arc?

The Opportunity Center is an Individualized Skills and Socialization (ISS) program, governed by the Texas Health and Human Services (26 TAC Chapter 559), we are held to the utmost standard in the programming we provide. 

 

The Opportunity Center provides structured daytime services that help promote independence, support skill-building, encourage social development and provide meaningful community engagement opportunities. Our dedicated staff empower clients to pursue individualized personal goals to better themselves and their future. We are a structured learning and socialization program that supports growth in a safe, respectful environment.​

Who is Eligible for the Opportunity Center?

Please be aware that as an ISS we are not a medical clinic, a therapy/counseling provider, a mental health treatment facility nor a custodial or passive care program. 

 

The Opportunity Center is designed for adults age eighteen and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who are seeking opportunities for independence, skill development, and community engagement. To participate in the program, individuals must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have a documented diagnosis of an intellectual and/or developmental disability (I/DD), including a completed Level of Need (LON) assessment

  • Be age eighteen or older

  • Be able to safely navigate the campus independently without risk of elopement

  • Demonstrate basic communication and safety awareness skills appropriate for settings requiring only visual and auditory supervision

  • Be independent in toileting and personal self-care

  • Be able to eat independently and bring their own lunch and snacks each day

  • Complete assigned activities and tasks with minimal assistance

  • Follow established medication management requirements

  • Demonstrate non-aggressive behavior and not pose a safety risk to themselves or others

  • Be able to participate in reasonably busy or stimulating environments, with reasonable accommodations as appropriate

How to Apply

Intake Interview

1.

Schedule a free phone or virtual intake interview so we can learn more about the participant, discuss goals and support needs, and determine if the Opportunity Center is a good fit.

Tour the Facility

2.

Visit the Opportunity Center to explore the facility, observe program activities, and meet The Arc of McLennan County staff in a welcoming, in-person environment.

Free Trial 

3.

Attend the Opportunity Center for a complimentary three-day trial experience, allowing participants and families to ensure the program feels comfortable and meets their needs.

Support & Services

Please note:

  • The Arc of McLennan County does not provide therapeutic or clinical intervention services.

  • Participants who require therapeutic supports must arrange those services independently.

  • External providers may be permitted on a case-by-case basis.
     

Participation Expectations

Participants are expected to:

  • Follow program attendance guidelines

  • Understand and comply with program policies, including discharge procedures

  • Arrange transportation to and from The Arc.

  • Transportation is provided only for Arc-approved community activities.
